About this Class
This professional class offers dancers the opportunity to engage with internationally acclaimed artists Jean Abreu and Naishi Wang, co-creators of Deciphers — an interdisciplinary performance exploring movement as a form of translation.
Designed for dancers & movement practitioners, the class focuses on improvisation, physical articulation, and the fluid exchange between movement and meaning. Drawing from Chinese Folk Dance, Brazilian dance forms, spoken word, breath work, and ink-based mark-making, participants will explore how diverse movement languages can communicate across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
Through a combination of technical practice, guided improvisation, and creative exploration, dancers will engage with the choreographic ideas behind Deciphers, examining themes of translation, misunderstanding, and the immigrant experience.
The class compliments the live performance of Deciphers at Patrick Studio on 06 November, offering deeper insight into the work’s creative process and artistic collaboration.
