CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Focusing on using the breath to wake up the body andenergise the mind, the class is based in Contemporary and Afro-fusiontechniques, working on expansive full-body movement, engaging centralmuscularity, and finding freedom and fluidity in the spine.


BIO:

Christopher Radford is a professional dance performer,teacher and choreographer who works in the high energy styles of African,Afro-fusion and Contemporary.

Originally from Birmingham, Chris started dancing as amember of ACE dance and music’s youth company. He moved on to formal trainingat Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds where he achieved aFirst-Class BPA(hons) Degree. After graduating NSCD he completed anapprenticeship with Scottish Dance Theatre, in conjunction with London ContemporaryDance School, achieving a Distinction Postgraduate Diploma

After his apprenticeship, Chris became a freelance artist;touring nationally and internationally with companies including: Scottish DanceTheatre, Autin DT, ACE dance and music, Heather Walrond Company and Corey BakerDance. He internationally performed works by choreographers; Damien Jalet,Anton Lachky, Rosie Kay and Fleur Darkin, and was involved in research andvideo development with Extended Play Dance, led by Jamaal Burkmar.

Recently, alongside performing, Chris has been teaching andchoreographing on many schools and youth programmes throughout theMidlands, including CAT Birmingham and Nicholson School of Dance, and isPrinciple Lecturer of Contemporary on Performers College Degree Course. 

He has formed his own company with partner Sara Macqueen,Linden Dance Company, and has been researching, delivering and creating work aspart of the Arts Connect THRIVE bursary, HG31 digital Commission and BeyondBorders project. Linden DC has performed at festivals including BirminghamWeekender, BIDF and Fest4all and has a youth company, Linden Youth, that iscurrently engaging in weekly classes and performance projects.
