Frequently Asked Questions

Brum Pro class is for the professional dance community, delivered by the professional dance community.  

Created in response to the ambition of the city’s dance sector to have a consistent offer of professional classes in a variety of styles. Brum Pro Class has provided two classes per week across the city since during term time. 

Brum Pro Class is a high-quality class for anyone who considers themself a professional dance artist. Accessibility is important to us, and we offer an inclusive class adhering to individual needs. Recent graduates and second or third-year vocational dance students who wants to continue their development outside of term-time training are also welcome.  

Classes take place in a variety of locations in the city. Normally Monday classes takes place at FABRIC’s Studios based on the Birmingham Hippodrome campus, and Thursday classes either  ACE Dance and Music in Digbeth, Midlands Art Centre Cannon Hill Park, or Brazilian Cultural Centre in the Jewellery Quarter. Please check carefully on booking to see the location, or call or visit. 

Single or multiple classes can be purchased online directly from here  at a fixed rate of £10 per class. Spaces are subject to availability and not guaranteed. 

We encourage all classes to be bought in advance through the website, and booking is open until 15mins after the class has started. Card payments can be taken at reception up to 10 minutes before the start of a class if the website is not accepting bookings, but not if it is. 

Once purchased, tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded unless the class is cancelled for reasons beyond our control. 

There are currently no membership schemes available for Brum Pro Class 2024/25. Price packages are reviewed on a yearly basis and subject to change. 

Anything comfortable that lets you move freely. You can wear tracksuit bottoms, leggings & t-shirts for most classes. Footwear is not essential but please wear light-soled trainers or dance shoes (if you have them), black-soled trainers and stiletto heels are not allowed. Bare feet or socks are also fine. 

If you arrive later than 15mins, entry to a class is at the discretion of the tutor. In the case that you are able to join late, you will be responsible for undertaking your own warm-up before you start for safety reasons. 

Brum Pro Class strives to deliver an inclusive programme of classes, an access rider template can be found here and any Brum Pro Class participant who would like to, is invited to complete this to be shared with the relevant tutors. An access rider is a short document detailing any access requirements a tutor or participant may have and want to share to enable their needs to be supported 

The dance community has ownership of Brum Pro Class, and attendance and teaching is an encouraged part of the spirit.

So yes, Brum Pro Class is always interested to hear from tutors who would like to teach Pro Class. Tutors are paid an all-inclusive fee for the class, with no additional expenses paid to travel. Tutors are scheduled 6-12 weeks ahead of delivery. If you are interested in teaching a class, please contact hello@brumproclass.org.uk to find out more. 

Independent local artists are at the heart of Brum Pro Class through active participation and attendance. Each year 3 independent dance artists sit on the Steering Group and have an invaluable input into the decision making and planning of the scheme.   

The artists for 2024/2025 are Helen Calcutt, Daniel Lukehurst and Hadija Brittain 

Artists serve a 2-year term on the Steering Group (paid time). There are 1 or 2 places available to apply for each year for new artists to join the Steering Group so please look out for this if you are interested, the next call out will be in summer 2025.
